Before you practice

Educational practice, not emergency instructions.

In a real fire: get outside, stay outside, call 911 from a safe place, and follow emergency responders.

Follow your local fire department guidance and the escape plan made for your home. This demonstration does not replace a practiced household escape plan.

What it practices

A simple home escape decision sequence.

The demonstration focuses on a single-family home scenario with a ground-floor bedroom and a prepared, usable second exit.

01 / ALARM

React when the smoke alarm sounds

Begin escaping promptly and leave belongings behind.

02 / EXIT

Use a prepared second way out

Keep a smoky door closed and use the second exit when the main route is blocked.

03 / OUTSIDE

Meet, call, and stay out

Go to the meeting place, call 911 from safety, and tell responders if someone may still be inside.

Inside the demonstration

Guided choices with safer-action feedback.

Participants choose an action, review the consequence, and retry when needed. The activity is not timed and does not assign a grade.

Optional alarm examples are included for education only. Actual smoke alarms and evacuation alarms vary by building and device.
